Olexiy Kyrychenko

CERGE-EI

Olexiy Kyrychenko is a PhD Candidate at CERGE, Charles University, and a Junior Researcher at the Economics Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences. He received his MA in Economics, CERGE-EI, Czechia (2015). Recently, he held visiting positions at UC Berkeley and Princeton University. Before CERGE-EI, he was an Associate Professor at ZNTU, Ukraine (2012), and a Fulbright Scholar Award recipient (2011). He received his Ukrainian MA and PhD in International Economic Relations in 1999 and 2010.

I am a 5th year PhD student at TU Darmstadt and Goethe University Frankfurt. My main research field is in empirical banking and empirical I.O. I am interested in how competition in banking evolved and what impact government interventions like bank bailout and merger control have. Also I want to learn how the banking business is likely to evolve with new digital competitiors and the prospect of a European market. Other research includes the role of currency reserve management for central banks.

Ruirui Liu

King's College London

Ruirui Liu is a Ph.D. candidate in Financial Economics at King's Business School of King's College London. Her research interests lie in the fields of asset pricing, portfolio choice, and Bayesian econometrics, with a particular focus on high-dimensional data analysis. Her studies have been or scheduled to be presented at annual conferences of EEA, ES, RES, CEF, FoFI, etc.. She has published a paper on Journal of International Money and Finance.

Jianan Lu

This is Jianan Lu, currently a PhD candidate in Finance at University of Edinburgh Business School. My PhD research is currently on cross-regional financial and economic development, with particular attention on the role of history and cultural on contemporary social capital, financial behaviour and economic development.

Rafat Mahmood

University of Western Australia

Rafat is in her final year in PhD studies in Economics at UWA. Earlier she completed both her Masters and M.Phil in Economics from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan and is currently employed at a public policy think tank in Pakistan. Her primary research interests include Development Economics and Political Economy. In her three dissertation papers, she is exploring the relationship of terrorism with communications technology, drone strikes and religious seminaries, respectively.

Egor Malkov

Egor Malkov is a Ph.D. candidate in Economics at the University of Minnesota and Research Analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. He was born in Krasnoyarsk-26, Russia. In 2012 he earned his B.A. in Economics at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow. In 2014 he also earned M.A. in Economics there. Egor’s research interests include macroeconomics, labor economics, and public economics. In his free time, he enjoys running (completed 12 marathons), cross-country skiing, and reading.

I did my undergraduate and masters studies at the University of Brasilia, and the PhD in Economics at the University of Minnesota. During the PhD I specialized on macroeconomics and growth with focus on structural transformation. At PIK, I am developing a multi-sector growth model to study how economic growth and reallocation of production interacts with climate change and policies to mitigate its negative effects.

Ana Moreno-Maldonado

European University Institute

Ana Moreno-Maldonado is a PhD candidate in the European University Institute. Her main fields of research are Urban Economics, Labour Economics, and Gender Economics. She is also interested in the Economics of Migration and International Trade. Before starting the PhD, she worked as an Economic Consultant at the OECD. She holds a MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and a double bachelor in Law and Economics from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.
